Walrus Audio Fundamental Series Pedals: Hands-On Demo Review Header

Fundamentals Lead to Innovation

For the Fundamental Series, Walrus challenged themselves to design a set of pedals with the tonal integrity that’s required to live on a professional’s pedalboard, but with simplified controls friendly enough for even the newest effect pedal users. Each Fundamental pedal includes 3 sliders for tweaking the sound, plus a three-way switch for changing pedal modes. The result is a line of 8 pedals that will keep you covered from your first band practice all the way to a sold-out arena.

I don't see these as just starter pedals. I really agree with the price and I think they're really inspiring and intuitive. The ease of use makes them such a great working tool because you're not neck deep in manuals or LED screens.

How's it going everybody? This is Taylor over at Cosmo music today we're taking a look at the Walrus Audio Fundamental series pedals. This being the fundamental series, Walrus has done a really great job on capturing the fundamental. These eight petals would be a really great place to start in terms guitar effects, not to mention the price makes me happy. There's nothing boutique about the price these are very accessible, and these are very easy to learn, and it seems like they've almost put a limit on the sliders and the switches that are included on every pedal. There are just three sliders three switches per pedal input output. Brain dead simple. But I'll let the sounds speak for themselves.

DRIVE First Impressions
First out of the gate we've got the drive pedal. Not much to say about this drive pedal, sounds pretty good to me. I'd have to favor the crunch setting personally.

FUZZ First Impressions
Now, on to the fuzz. They've got the gate, the classic, and the mid. The gate sounds awesome I would probably use a little bit of a hotter guitar to push that gate a little bit. I think it was closing a little early on me that's just kind of a comment on that and I'm torn between the classic and the mid on this I think the mid sounds badass. I think the classic sounds a little bit more clear that they both have their applications for sure.I'm using today is the Fender American Vintage 2 Stratocaster we're using a fender base breaker amp with a Shure sm57 about an inch off the column.

DISTORTION First Impressions
Thank you over to the distortion pedal again very simple this sounds very good though the dark and the LED I have to say are my favorite and this is a Stratocaster I'm playing you can kind of hear how hard it's pushing that Strat and there's just some really good Clarity that I'm enjoying.

PHASER First Impressions
I'm probably the last person on Earth that should be demoing a phaser pedal or maybe I'm the perfect person to demo a phaser pedal because I have no idea what to do with this thing, but I had an absolute blast. My only comment would be I'd say the light to me would be more of a medium and that's all I can say yeah, I thought it was great I thought it was a lot of fun and I made some pretty wacky parts out of it.

DELAY First Impressions
Over to the delay a little bit. Like the phaser, I've never owned a delay but these three switches and these three sliders you can create so much, and I feel like I was entering realms that I don't usually. I don't know if this is music or scoring or I don't know but I had a lot of fun just improvising with this thing. My favorite’s a tie between reverse and analog obviously being the more kind of natural tape delay sound that we're all a little bit used to digital is a very literal representation of what you just played. So, they both all three are incredible tools.

TREMOLO First Impressions
The tremolo sounds great, and it responds great. I wish I would have shown everyone a little bit more playing with the depth slider a little more dialed back because I do think it is a strong tremolo. But yeah, it's a strong tremolo it does the thing I think it sounds really good.

REVERB First Impressions
Over to the Reverb, I mean what more could you ask for. Hall spring and plate you got your fundamental three and decay tone and mix. I’m a big TC electronic Hall of Fame user so I had a lot of fun with this. Kind of playing stuff that I've used that pedal for in different albums and whatnot and I think it responded to the Stratocaster and all the different sounds the Stratocaster can do very well.

CHORUS First Impressions
Lastly, we have the chorus. I love chorus, I don't have a chorus pedal maybe I'll buy this one. The thing I love the most about chorus let's say you have a chord progression that you think is boring. Try a Chorus pedal. Honestly, we're hearing it all over music these days. It's having the biggest comeback ever, seriously. Take that song that you wrote put it through a chorus pedal there's a chance it's going to add a whole different vibe and you honestly didn't do anything except click the button. So, I love it of course for that. I think this one sounds great. I'd have to say kind of similarly to the tremolo it is a little bit strong but don't dial back chorus if you're using it you're using it make it.

Conclusion
All right thanks for tuning in to our video for The Walrus Audio Fundamental series pedals. As I said, these are an amazing place to start. I don't see these as starter pedals only, I just really agree with the price, and I think they're really inspiring and intuitive and the ease of use makes them such a great working tool because you're not neck deep in manuals or LED screens or whatever. About Walrus Audio for Sale at Cosmo Music

About Walrus Audio

Walrus Audio hears a lot of charming sounds featured on albums a lot of us are listening to. From Dawes to Sigur Ros, from Sting to Mastodon, from Bonnie Raitt to Kendrick Lamar, and from Flying Burrito Brothers to Harry Styles, they are constantly listening to you play music. They are moved by songs, riffs, solos, melodies, lyrics and album art that come from your creativity and hard work.

They are moved by what moves you.

That directly correlates to the development of a sound, a box, a pedal. Before they ever sell one, these creations, these prototypes get sent to a chain of artists that we look up to. At Walrus, everyone plays guitar...but not like these folks can. They give it a strenuous workout that includes tour, studio use, weekend gigging, and maybe an occasional Instagram tease. After they get everyone’s notes back, they make changes, then do it again. When it’s perfect (to them), you see it.
